The fascinating science of Archeology is a key to understand our origins and their environment. It is an inter-disciplinary field, which seeks to reconstruct the world that has once lived through deciphering the context of the smallest of the evidence.

Naturally, there is an immense curiosity about the field.

The Bhandarkar Oriental Research Institute is thus thrilled to announce the first-of-its-kind online course on Archeology, that provides a 360° insight into the fundamentals of Archelogy within a span of 10 lectures (duration – 50/60 minutes)

Designed And Delivered By Dr. Pramod Jogalekar, The Course Delves Into Following Topics –

  1. What is archaeology and how it is related to our past?
  2. Archaeology, anthropology, history, and other disciplines
  3. Archaeological periods
  4. History of archaeology
  5. Archaeological record – archaeological sites
  6. Branches of archaeology
  7. Methods of finding sites
  8. Methods of digging to reconstruct the past
  9. Artefacts, ecofacts- nature of evidence
  10. Science in archaeology- physical sciences
  11. Science in archaeology- biological sciences
  12. Pseudo-archaeology

The course will take place between 1 August 2022 – 13 August 2022.

The lectures will be delivered via zoom at 7 PM. The lectures are pre-recorded and at the end of week a live Q/A sessions will be conducted.

The fee of the course in INR 1800/-

About Dr. Pramod Jogalekar
Dr. Pramod Jogalekar

Former Professor and Head, Department of AIHC and Archaeology, Deccan College, Pune
M.Sc. (Zoology), M.Phil. (Statistics), Ph.D. (Archaeology), M.A. (Indology). He has research experience of 38 years and teaching experience of 25 years. Dr Joglekar’s fields of specialization are Bioarchaeology, Environmental History, Archaeological Science, Pre- and Protohistory, History of Science and Technology, Indology, Biolinguistic and Research Methodology. He has published 47 books and edited 2 Volumes, 226 Research Papers and 27 Popular articles.

Among his many honours are:

  • Post-Doctoral Fellowship of Ford Foundation in 1990 (U.S. and Holland)
  • Post-Doctoral Fellowship of Government of Italy in 1993
  • Member of the Joint Russian-Italian-Turkmen expedition in Central Asia in 1993
  • President of the Maharashtra Itihasa Parishad in 2013

He is a member of many learned societies like:

  • Life Member and the General Secretary of the Indian Society for Prehistoric and Quaternary Studies (2009+)
  • Life Member of the Marathi Vigyan Parishad
  • Member, Regulating Council of Bhandarkar Oriental Research Institute (2020-2025)
